OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA

Obstructive sleep apnea is characterized by recurrent episodes of partial or complete collapse of the upper airway during sleep, resulting in arterial oxygen desaturation and an awakening reaction that resumes breathing. Hypoxia and sleep fragmentation lead to a series of disorders, causing increased morbidity and mortality in patients, as well as significant impairments in their quality of life.

The obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by recurrent episodes of partial or complete collapse of the upper airway during sleep as a result of which arterial oxygen desaturation and reaction d awakening occurs resumed breathing. Hypoxemia and sleep fragmentation leading to a series of alterations causing increased morbidity and mortality of patients, in addition to significant deterioration in their quality of life.
